Placemark Investments, Inc. Profile

Placemark Investments is a private investment manage firm based out of Addison, Texas. The company was established in 1999 and currently has an additional location in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Placemark Investments is a “leading developer of Unified Managed Accounts (UMA) programs for banks, full-service broker-dealers and RIA firms.” Placemark Investments utilizes internal research to invest in the public equity markets on a global scale. The company invests most heavily in the financial sector, which alone makes up over a third of its total asset allocations, and also invests in the services, technology, health care, consumer noncyclical, energy, capital goods, basic materials, and utilities and telecommunications sectors, among others to a lesser degree, in order of decreasing allocations. The company currently has 70 employees and is headed by CEO and Chairman Levon Chertavian. Placemark Investments currently holds over 15.7 billion in total assets under management spread across over 45,000 accounts, all of which are discretionary accounts. Both the company’s total number of accounts held and total assets under management have been increasing in recent years, with its total number of accounts growing from under 10,000 five years ago to well over four times that amount today and its total managed assets growing significantly from $3 billion back in 2010 to well over five times that amount today. The company mainly caters to individuals, which alone makes up over two thirds of its total client base, and also provides its services to high net worth individuals, pension and profit sharing plans, charitable organizations, and corporations and other businesses, in order of decreasing clientele. In 2014, Placemark Investments was acquired by Envestnet, Inc. a “leading provider of unified wealth management technology and services to investment advisors and wealth managers” and currently continues to operate as a business subsidiary today. Placemark Holdings was acquired for $66 million and its clients now has access to Envestnet’s platform of wealth management services.
