This investment, the largest single announcement by Microsoft in Brazil to date, is part of the company's "Microsoft Mais Brasil" program launched in 2020.
The investment strategy includes expanding cloud and AI infrastructure across multiple datacenters in Sao Paulo state. Additionally, Microsoft aims to provide AI training to approximately 5 million people in Brazil over the three-year period.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella emphasized the company's commitment to supporting AI transformation in Brazil and ensuring its benefits reach everyone. The tech giant estimates that widespread AI adoption could significantly boost Brazil's economic growth, potentially adding 4.2 percentage points by the end of the decade.
Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin welcomed the investment, highlighting Brazil's potential to become a global AI leader. He also noted the country's abundant renewable energy resources, which could sustainably power the expanding network of datacenters.
