Brazil's Cane Crushing Forecast to Drop Due to Weather and Fires

On September 27, consulting firm StoneX reported that due to adverse weather and fires impacting major production areas, Brazil’s south-central region's cane crushing volume for the 2025/26 season is expected to drop by 3.2% from the previous season to 593.2 million tons. According to StoneX, this will be the second consecutive annual decline in cane crushing volume for Brazil's main sugar belt.

The company also expects a 6.3% decrease in cane crushing volume for the 2024/25 season after a record-setting previous year. In its report, StoneX stated, "The preliminary outlook for the 2025/26 season remains uncertain." The report added that the region has been in a "severe drought" since November 2023 and will "urgently need" rainfall starting in October.
