UAW Calls for Strike Authorization at Stellantis Amid Contract Disputes

The President of the United Auto Workers (UAW), Shawn Fain, announced on Friday that the union is urging Stellantis workers to authorize a strike. Fain accused the European automaker of breaking contractual promises made during negotiations last fall.

UAW's grievances against Stellantis center on unmet product and investment commitments from the previous year's contract talks. Fain stated that the union reviewed significant contract violations and an ongoing pattern of illegal actions by Stellantis. He warned that CEO Carlos Tavares's leadership could lead the company towards a downfall, severely impacting union members.

Stellantis reaffirmed that it has honored the agreements reached with UAW in 2023.
