On Monday, Asian stock markets opened with mixed results. Japan's Nikkei 225 Index opened down 1.8%, at 39,117.83 points, while the TOPIX Index fell 1.6%, to 2,696.98 points.
Shigeru Ishiba, who was elected as the new president of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party on Friday, emphasized that the current monetary easing by the Bank of Japan must continue due to ongoing economic uncertainties and deflation concerns.
In contrast, South Korea's KOSPI Index opened up 0.6%, at 2,665.24 points.
