The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has reported that the rudder control systems on Boeing 737 aircraft used by over 40 foreign airlines may pose potential safety risks.
The NTSB disclosed that it has been informed of two similar incidents involving the rudder actuator among foreign operators in 2019. In a letter to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Mike Whitaker, NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy expressed concern that other airlines might not be aware of these problematic actuators on their 737 planes.
On September 26, the NTSB issued an urgent safety recommendation to Boeing and the FAA to address the potential issue of rudder control systems on certain Boeing 737 models becoming stuck or restricted.
