Berkshire Hathaway to Issue Yen Bonds Again, Speculation Rises on Increased Japanese Investments

Berkshire Hathaway, under Warren Buffett (Trades, Portfolio), plans to conduct its second yen-denominated bond issuance this year, sparking speculation of increased investments in Japan. The firm has hired Bank of America Securities and Mizuho Securities to manage the issuance of unsecured priority bonds in yen.

Since 2019, Berkshire Hathaway has been a regular issuer of yen-denominated notes, with the last issuance occurring in April. This fundraising move is closely monitored by stock market investors, especially after Buffett's significant purchase of shares in Japanese trading companies, which helped the Nikkei 225 index reach historic highs.

In his February letter to shareholders, Buffett mentioned that most of Berkshire's investments in Japanese companies were financed through yen bond issuances.
