Amazon (AMZN, Financial) is set to recruit around 250,000 workers in the United States for the holiday shopping season, maintaining the same level as last year. This suggests that the company expects steady demand in its largest market.

The e-commerce giant typically announces its autumn hiring spree to attract new employees. Recently, Amazon stated it would increase the hourly wage for 800,000 of its U.S. transportation and warehouse workers by at least $1.5, bringing the total to over $22 per hour.

According to Challenger, Gray & Christmas, retailers are projected to add 520,000 jobs in the last quarter of the year. This represents an 8% decrease from 2023, attributed to a softening labor market and economic conditions. Last month, Target announced plans to hire approximately 100,000 seasonal workers, similar to the previous year.

Some forecasts offer a more optimistic view of e-commerce. Adobe anticipates that U.S. consumers will spend approximately $240.8 billion during November and December, marking an 8.4% increase from the prior year.
