Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSM, Financial) saw its stock rise over 1.7% to $184.3. The increase comes on the heels of a major breakthrough in its 2nm process technology, which will incorporate Gate-all-around FETs transistor technology for the first time. This new N2 process is expected to offer a 10% to 15% performance boost at the same power levels, or reduce power consumption by 25% to 30% at the same frequency, compared to the current N3E process.

The price of TSMC's 300mm 2nm wafers might exceed $30,000 each, surpassing earlier expectations of $25,000. In comparison, current 3nm wafers are priced between $18,500 to $20,000, while 4/5nm wafers range from $15,000 to $16,000.
