Chinese Tech Stocks Show Mixed Performance Amid US Market Decline

On Thursday, prominent Chinese stocks listed in the U.S. had varied performances. The NASDAQ Golden Dragon China Index (HXC) edged up by 0.30%.

Among the gainers, Alibaba (BABA, Financial) rose by 1.29%, Pinduoduo (PDD) increased by 0.08%, JD.com (JD) climbed 0.89%, and Trip.com (TCOM) surged 2.29%. Tencent Music (TME) went up by 1.33%, ZTO Express (ZTO) added 0.55%, and Huazhu Group (HTHT) gained 1.46%. Additionally, New Oriental Education (EDU) inched up 0.40%, XPeng (XPEV) rose 0.96%, and Kanzhun (BZ) increased 1.01%. Miniso Group (MNSO) saw a rise of 2.32%, while 360 DigiTech (QFIN) jumped 2.95%, and GDS Holdings (GDS) rose 0.36%.

Conversely, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSM) fell by 0.72%, NetEase (NTES) decreased by 1.12%, and Baidu (BIDU) slightly dipped by 0.02%. Li Auto (LI) experienced a substantial drop of 3.76%. Other decliners included Chunghwa Telecom (CHT), down 0.76%, Beike (BEKE) down 0.23%, BeiGene (BGNE) down 0.42%, and ASE Technology Holding (ASX) declining 1.12%. United Microelectronics (UMC) fell 0.12%, Futu Holdings (FUTU) plunged 3.38%, and NIO (NIO) dropped 0.79%. Full Truck Alliance (YMM) decreased 2.08%, Bilibili (BILI) shrunk by 2.48%, Vipshop (VIPS) fell 0.60%, and Zeekr fell 2.41%. Additionally, Autohome (ATHM) edged down 0.03%, and Atour Lifestyle Holdings (ATAT) dropped 0.11%.

In the broader U.S. market, stocks slightly declined on Thursday. The U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) for September showed month-on-month and year-on-year increases that exceeded expectations, while initial jobless claims reached a one-year high. These indicators suggest persistent inflationary pressures and a weakening labor market, placing downward pressure on stock indices. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 57.88 points or 0.14% to 42,454.12 points. The NASDAQ Composite declined by 9.57 points or 0.05% to 18,282.05 points, while the S&P 500 Index dropped 11.99 points or 0.21% to 5,780.05 points.
