In building 40 Microtel hotels all throughout India by 2031, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts (WH, Financials) has inked a joint venture with NILE Hospitality. The first hotel is set to open next year, targeting Tier II, III, and IV cities that are emerging metropolitan areas with populations between 20,000 and 100,000—offering at least 50,000 rooms per site.
Wyndham is currently running 60 hotels in India and the alliance will greatly increase its visibility there. Over the next eighteen months, Wyndham will be looking to expand its portfolio throughout the country by 25%. These measures are effectively in line with the rising need for mid-sized hotels in India's emerging metropolitan areas. Comparatively, Marriott( MAR, Financials) the fourth-largest hotel brand in the nation runs 120 locations.
"We are concentrating our strategic efforts on bringing more of our varied brands to India since we still find amazing opportunity there," said Dimitris Manikis, head of Wyndham's EMEA business. Moreover, its important to note that India has just raised its position in global travel rankings from 54th to 39th in the World Economic Forum's 2024 Travel and Tourism Development Index.
