IBM (IBM, Financial) has launched the latest version of its artificial intelligence model aimed at enterprise use, named Granite 3.0, to capitalize on the growing trend of businesses adopting generative AI technologies. Unlike competitors such as Microsoft (MSFT), which charge clients for accessing their models, IBM is offering Granite 3.0 as an open-source model, similar to other versions in its Granite series.

IBM also provides a paid tool called Watsonx, which assists in running customized models within data centers. Starting soon, some variants of the new Granite models on the Watsonx platform will be available for commercial use. Additionally, parts of these models will be included in NVIDIA's (NVDA) software tools stack to aid enterprises in integrating AI models.

IBM's Director of Research, Dario Gil, noted that the new Granite models have been trained using NVIDIA's H100 graphical processing units (GPUs).
