McDonald's (MCD) Shares Plunge Amid E. Coli Outbreak Investigation

McDonald's (MCD, Financial) experienced a significant drop in its stock price, opening with a 7.1% decrease, marking the largest decline since March 2020. By the latest report, the stock was down 5.32%, trading at $297.963.

The decline followed an investigation report published by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The report noted that 10 states across the U.S. have reported cases of E. coli infections traced back to food consumption. A total of 49 people have fallen ill, with 10 hospitalizations, including one child, and one fatality involving an elderly person in Colorado.

All affected individuals had reportedly dined at McDonald's, consuming the same type of burger prior to exhibiting symptoms.
