Nvidia (NVDA, Financial) CEO Jensen Huang recently stated that the European Union is significantly trailing behind the United States and China in terms of artificial intelligence (AI) investments. While Europe has a few AI companies, including France's Mistral and Germany's Aleph Alpha, the EU has implemented the world's first comprehensive AI regulatory framework, effective since August.

During his visit to Copenhagen, Huang emphasized the need for the EU to accelerate its progress in the AI sector. He introduced a new supercomputer called Gefion, which boasts 1,528 graphics processing units (GPUs), a collaborative effort between Nvidia, the Novo Nordisk Foundation, and Denmark's Export and Investment Fund. Nvidia, a leading GPU manufacturer, is critical for accelerating AI tasks, with its GPUs being integral to platforms like OpenAI's ChatGPT.

Denmark plans to utilize Gefion for drug development, disease diagnosis, treatment, and tackling complex life sciences challenges. Huang predicted a golden decade for digital biology, noting that computer-aided drug development will become a reality within this time frame. Nvidia is the second-largest publicly traded company in the US by market value, following Apple, valued at $3.52 trillion.
