Google is reportedly testing a significant new feature for the upcoming Android 16 update, which will allow users to adjust the size of tiles in the quick settings panel. This change aims to enable users to customize the number and arrangement of tiles on their screens based on personal preferences and needs.
In the latest Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3 version, the feature was discovered allowing users to resize tiles by tapping and dragging them in the edit view. Tiles can be resized to either 1x1 or 2x1 dimensions. Consequently, users can place up to 8 or 16 tiles on a single page, depending on the chosen tile sizes. Remarkably, any tile, including those provided by third-party apps, can be resized.
Currently, the layout of the quick settings panel in Android 15 is fixed, displaying a limited number of tiles. The new resizable tile feature will allow users to personalize the quick settings panel based on their needs, either by opting for larger tiles to showcase frequently used settings or by choosing smaller tiles to display a broader range of settings.
It's important to note that this feature is not enabled by default in the latest Android beta version, and there is a possibility that Google could abandon this feature before Android 16's official release next year. If retained, it would represent a significant enhancement to the Android user experience, offering greater personalization and flexibility.
