Workers at Boeing's West Coast factory are scheduled to vote on an improved contract proposal, which may conclude a seven-week strike and restart the production of jets at the struggling aircraft manufacturer. This marks Boeing's fourth proposal since the onset of the strike, highlighting the urgency of the situation for the company.
The latest proposal from Boeing includes a 38% wage increase over four years, surpassing the previous offer's 35% increase, which was rejected by about two-thirds of the 33,000 striking machinists just 12 days ago. The strike has severely impacted the production of Boeing's profitable 737 MAX jets. Recently, Boeing announced a $24 billion stock issuance to strengthen its financial position amidst these challenges.
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers stated that if the offer is accepted, workers could resume operations as early as Wednesday, but no later than November 12th.
