Nokia (NOK, Financials) has extended its 5G contract with Taiwan Mobile, agreeing to modernize Taiwan Mobile's 5G network and upgrade its 4G/LTE infrastructure to increase capacity and enhance coverage for approximately 10 million users.
Targeting both urban and rural areas, this growth involves improving the carrier's present LTE sites to increase coverage, capacity, and sustainability.
Under the agreement, Nokia will install its 5G AirScale portfolio across Taiwan, offering sophisticated modular baseband solutions, Habrok 32 and Osprey 32 Mass MIMO radios, and Remote Radio Heads driven by Nokia's energy-efficient ReefShark System-on-Chip technology. These improvements increase network efficiency and help Taiwan Mobile meet its environmental goals. Taiwan Mobile will also use Nokia's IPAA+ solution to allow extra antennas in highly populated regions.
Aiming to equip Taiwan Mobile's network for the forthcoming 5G-Advanced age, the contract extension reflects the company's recent merger with Taiwan Star. Taiwan Mobile also intends to mix radio spectrum using Nokia's Carrier Aggregation technology, improving data speeds and network performance.
Over two decades, Nokia has teamed with Taiwan Mobile, first helping with the carrier's 2G, 3G, and 4G infrastructure. Over 3,000 additional cell locations for national 5G coverage now underlie our partnership.
President of Taiwan Mobile Jamie Lin said that working with Nokia helps the business to fulfill its objective of providing enhanced 5G experiences and supporting more than a million Internet of Things devices. Nokia's President of Mobile Networks, Tommi Uitto, underlined how cooperation helps Taiwan Mobile's network to be modernized using sustainable, energy-efficient technologies.
