Carrefour, the French retail giant, is evaluating strategies to enhance its valuation, according to insiders. These discussions are in early stages, following the collapse of its acquisition talks with a competitor over three years ago. The options being considered include asset divestitures, growth through partnerships and acquisitions, or business restructuring.

Insiders suggest that if a buyer shows interest, Carrefour, listed in Paris, might contemplate selling the entire company or a portion of its shares. Another potential path could involve maintaining independence while improving competitiveness through strategic adjustments and new investments. Carrefour's share price has fallen about 30% from its 2022 peak, with a market value of approximately €10.1 billion ($11 billion).

If Carrefour proceeds, the sale could attract attention from private equity firms and industry players. Nonetheless, discussions are still in preliminary stages, with no formal negotiations initiated with interested parties. Carrefour might ultimately choose not to pursue any transaction. A company representative declined to comment on the matter.

On a related note, Carrefour's American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) saw a notable increase, rising 9.5% before settling at a 5.4% gain at $3.32. Carrefour's major markets include France, Brazil, and Spain, with its Brazilian subsidiary listed in São Paulo and valued at around $2.9 billion.
