Apple Inc. (AAPL, Financial) is reportedly planning to invest nearly $10 million in Indonesia to increase local production, aiming to lift the sales ban on its latest iPhone models in the country. This initiative involves collaborating with suppliers to fund a factory in Bandung, which will produce accessories and components for Apple products.
The company has submitted a plan to the Indonesian Ministry of Industry after a restriction was placed last month, preventing the sale of iPhone 16 models. The ban was due to Apple’s local subsidiary not meeting the requirement that 40% of smartphones and tablets should be locally sourced.
Sources indicate that the investment proposal is under review by the ministry. Although it’s not the final version and could change, a decision is expected soon.
