The United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has raised concerns about Tesla's social media posts suggesting that its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software can function as a robotaxi without requiring constant driver attention. These statements have prompted an investigation into 2.4 million Tesla vehicles equipped with the FSD software, following four reported collision incidents.
In a recent communication, NHTSA informed Tesla that its social media messaging might mislead the public into believing the FSD is a fully autonomous robotaxi service. The agency emphasized that the system is, in fact, a semi-automated driver assistance system that still necessitates continual driver oversight and occasional intervention.
