The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced a 30-day suspension of flights by U.S. airlines to Haiti due to escalating safety concerns. This decision follows two shooting incidents targeting commercial flights.

The FAA has issued a Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) prohibiting U.S. civil aviation operations below 10,000 feet over Haitian territory and airspace. The suspension stems from two incidents on the same day involving gunfire.

In one incident, a Spirit Airlines (SAVE, Financial) flight traveling from Florida to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, was rerouted to the Dominican Republic after discovering bullet holes in its exterior. In another incident, a JetBlue (JBLU) flight returning to the U.S. from Port-au-Prince was found to have bullet damage upon arrival in New York.
