Volkswagen, the renowned German automaker, is set to launch its most affordable electric vehicle, the ID.2, by the end of 2025. Initially revealed as the ID.2all concept, this entry-level EV is expected to start at less than €25,000 (approximately $27,000). Despite facing delays with other electric models, Volkswagen remains committed to the ID.2's original timeline.
At the recent Los Angeles Auto Show, Kai Grünitz, Volkswagen's Head of Technical Development, announced significant changes to the ID electric vehicle lineup. Starting in 2026, Volkswagen plans to introduce substantial improvements in design and technology.
The ID.2 will be the first model based on Volkswagen's new MEB Entry platform. In addition to the standard version, an SUV variant is scheduled to debut at the Munich Auto Show in September 2025, with a GTI version also in development. The ID.2all concept boasts a range of up to 279 miles (450 kilometers) on a single charge.
Volkswagen describes the ID.2 as offering the spaciousness of a Golf while maintaining the affordability of a Polo. Although smaller in size than the Polo, the ID.2 benefits from an extended wheelbase, providing more interior space.
