Apollo Global Management (APO, Financial) has reached a $370 million agreement with Santander Bank (SAN) to invest in its infrastructure loan portfolio. While banks remain the primary providers of infrastructure credit, regulatory requirements have increased the cost of keeping such assets on their balance sheets. This presents an opportunity for private capital firms like Apollo, which are not subject to the same regulations, to hold bank loans. This shift helps banks free up capital for more lending. Apollo has formed various partnerships with banks, including Citigroup (C) and BNP Paribas (BNPQY), to facilitate credit formation. The firm also plans to invest $50 billion in clean energy and climate projects by 2027.
