Waymo to Launch Autonomous Taxis in Japan Under Alphabet (GOOG)

Waymo, the autonomous driving subsidiary of Alphabet (GOOG, Financial), announced plans to introduce its self-driving robotaxi service in Japan. The first all-electric Waymo Jaguar I-PACE is set to arrive in Tokyo by early 2025. The company's partner, Japan Taxi, the largest taxi firm in Tokyo, will manage and service the Waymo vehicles. This marks Waymo's test operation in a new country. In the U.S., Waymo completes over 150,000 autonomous rides weekly. Alphabet's CEO, Sundar Pichai, revealed plans for Waymo to expand from Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Phoenix to approximately 10 cities by 2025. Tesla (TSLA), a leader in autonomous driving, aims to launch a robotaxi service in the U.S. by the end of 2025.
