The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that the nationwide grounding of American Airlines flights has been lifted. Earlier, American Airlines faced a technical issue affecting all its flights, causing disruptions during one of the busiest travel days of the year. The FAA estimated around 30,000 flights would operate across the U.S. on December 24.
American Airlines stated that passenger safety remains the top priority and assured that flights would resume once the issue was resolved. Although the exact nature of the problem was not disclosed, online reports suggested a software malfunction that hindered the calculation of flight weight and balance requirements. The airline is working on a fix but has not provided a timeline for resolution.
In pre-market trading, American Airlines' (AAL, Financial) stock dropped by 5.5% but later recovered to stabilize. As of 8 AM New York time, the stock remained unchanged.
