Shares of United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC, Financial) dropped more than 1.3%, trading at $6.73. The company recently announced that it has no plans to establish a production facility in the United States. Instead, UMC is focusing its resources on collaborating with Intel to develop a 12nm semiconductor process platform.

There were earlier reports suggesting that UMC, Taiwan's second-largest contract chip manufacturer, might face increased pressure to invest in the U.S. due to political changes. However, UMC has clarified its current strategic priorities, emphasizing its partnership with Intel over expanding its production footprint in the U.S.
