Boeing (BA) Shares Drop Over 4% Following Jeju Air Crash

Boeing (BA, Financial) shares fell over 4% in pre-market trading, priced at $173.28. This decline follows a tragic air crash involving a Jeju Air aircraft in South Korea, resulting in 179 fatalities. The aircraft involved was a Boeing 737-800, a model widely used globally.

Since 2000, the Boeing 737 series has been involved in 26 major accidents resulting in fatalities. The 737-800 model has the highest incident rate, with nine crashes and 984 deaths, averaging over 109 deaths per incident. The 737-200 model follows, with five crashes and 475 deaths, averaging 95 deaths per incident.
