Apple (AAPL, Financial) is offering significant discounts on its Chinese website, with savings up to 800 yuan on select products. The flagship iPhone 16 Pro, starting at 7,999 yuan, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max, starting at 9,999 yuan, are eligible for a maximum discount of 500 yuan. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will see a price reduction of 400 yuan.
This move comes as Apple faces increased competition in China, the world's largest smartphone market. Local manufacturers, particularly Huawei, have intensified the competitive landscape since their return to the high-end market with domestic chipsets in August 2023. Apple briefly fell out of the top five smartphone suppliers in China during Q2 2024 but saw a recovery in Q3.
Additional discounts apply to older iPhone models, iPads, and Mac products, with the 13-inch MacBook Air (M2) discounted by 600 yuan and the 15-inch MacBook Air (M3) by 800 yuan. Limited quantities are available, and customers must use specific payment methods like WeChat Pay or Alipay to qualify for the discounts.
