Microsoft (MSFT, Financial) is reportedly preparing to implement layoffs across the company as part of a strategic move to tighten performance reviews. The company spokesperson has confirmed the layoff plans but did not disclose the exact number of employees affected.
The focus is set to sharpen on high-performing talent, with appropriate actions being taken if employee performance does not meet expectations. However, when layoffs occur due to performance issues, Microsoft generally fills these vacancies, meaning the overall headcount may not significantly change.
As of last June, Microsoft employed approximately 228,000 full-time staff members.
