Tesla's Vice President, Tao Lin, highlighted the company's design philosophy, emphasizing safety and efficiency as top priorities. All design efforts are centered around enhancing the product's capabilities and are evaluated based on these criteria.
The inspiration for Tesla's futuristic design, including the Cybertruck, originated from a question posed by Elon Musk's son: "Why doesn't the future look like the future?" Tao Lin shared a comparison between the Cybertruck and the newly updated Model Y, both featuring continuous headlight and taillight designs. The refreshed Model Y boasts a more rounded appearance.
The updated Model Y draws design inspiration from the Cybertruck and the Cyber SUV, featuring a newly designed front, headlights, taillights, diffuser, wheels, and mirrors. Notably, it includes the world's first diffuse taillight design. The vehicle's dimensions are 4797 x 2129 (1982) x 1624mm, with a ground clearance of 167mm and a drag coefficient of 0.22.
Inside, the Model Y now includes ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, and rear seats extended by 15mm. The rear seats can be folded with a single button, offering over 2130 liters of storage space. The vehicle weighs 1921 kg and features a new silver-coated panoramic glass roof with improved sun protection and insulation.
Pre-orders for the updated Model Y have begun, with prices increased by approximately 12,600 to 13,600 yuan compared to the previous version. Deliveries are expected to start in March.
