GENWORTH FINANCIAL INC Profile
Genworth Financial Inc. is an insurance company based out of Henrico Country, Virginia. The company was originally established as The Life Insurance Company of Virginia in 1871. The Life Insurance Company of Virginia was established and led by A. G. McIlwaine, the company’s first president. The company would grow and move to Richmond a few years later, expanding its operations with diversified divisions by the turn of the century. The Life Insurance Company of Virginia would then expand its offerings, adding annuities, mortgage insurance, lifestyle protection, and a variety of other options and products. The company has also utilized mergers to supplement its organic growth, acquiring companies to improve and expand its business. In 1986, The Life Insurance Company of Virginia would be acquired by Combined Insurance for over half a billion. Combined Insurance, which would become AON Corporation following a series of acquisitions that included The Life Insurance Company of Virginia, would then in turn be acquired by GE Capital, the financial division of General Electric, in 1995. The Life Insurance Company of Virginia under new ownership of GE Capital would first become a part of GE Financial Assurance Holdings Inc. and then GE Capital Assurance Company before becoming incorporated into its current Genworth Financial Inc. in 2003 with the amalgamation of several insurance companies under GE Capital. A year later, Genworth Financial would have its IPO, the largest in its year. The company conducts its research internally and invests in a variety of sectors. Genworth Financial invests most heavily in the financial sector, which alone makes up over two thirds of its total asset allocations, and also invests in the services, technology, consumer noncyclical, utilities and health care sectors, among other sectors to a lesser degree, in order of decreasing allocation. Genworth Financial is now a Fortune 500 company and operates in three major segments: Retirement & Protection, US Mortgage Insurance, and International.
