Constellation Energy (CEG, Financial) has announced a landmark $1 billion contract to supply nuclear power to the U.S. government over the next decade. This deal is one of the largest energy procurements in U.S. General Services Administration history and focuses on climate-friendly nuclear energy from existing reactors.

Under the agreement, Constellation will deliver over 10 million megawatt-hours of electricity to more than 13 federal agencies, powering over a million homes annually. The power will be distributed to 80 federal facilities within the PJM Interconnection network, which serves over 65 million people.

The nuclear sector is regaining attention as tech companies and government agencies seek carbon-free power. Constellation's CEO, Joe Dominguez, noted that the deal supports industry changes, allowing for nuclear plant license extensions and investments in new technology, with an expected power increase of 135 megawatts.

The contract includes $840 million for power supply and $172 million for energy efficiency projects, such as weatherproofing federal buildings and expanding LED lighting.
