  • Super Micro Computer (SMCI, Financial) achieves industry's first Intel certification for immersion cooling solutions with its BigTwin® server system.
  • The certified system supports 4th and 5th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors and can significantly reduce Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) to values close to 1.05 or lower.
  • The certification enhances Supermicro's position in the energy-efficient data center market, meeting Open Compute Project (OCP) specifications.

Super Micro Computer, Inc. (SMCI) has reached a significant milestone with its BigTwin® server system, becoming the first in the industry to receive Intel's certification for immersion cooling solutions. This groundbreaking certification applies to systems equipped with the latest 4th and 5th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors, aligning with the Open Compute Project (OCP) material compatibility standards for immersion cooling environments.

The innovative immersion cooling technology incorporated into the BigTwin® SuperServer SYS-221BT-HNTR dramatically improves thermal efficiency while reducing energy consumption. By submerging servers directly in dielectric fluid, the technology eliminates the need for traditional air-cooling systems, achieving a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) as low as 1.05. The configuration features four hot-pluggable nodes in a compact 2U form factor, with support for up to 4TB DDR5-5600 memory per node and 3000W Titanium Level redundant power supplies.

This strategic advancement places Supermicro at the forefront of energy-efficient solutions for data centers, especially those handling high-compute AI workloads. The certification not only signifies adherence to rigorous testing standards but also provides data centers with a confident path to sustainable and efficient cooling methods. As a member of the OCP Advisory Board, Supermicro is poised to influence future standards in the immersion cooling ecosystem, potentially creating long-term strategic advantages in this expanding market segment.
