Altri SGPS (ASGSY) has announced a strategic acquisition of a majority stake in AeoniQ™, a Swiss cleantech company known for developing the world's first climate-positive, biodegradable cellulosic filament yarn. This move is aimed at industrializing sustainable textile yarn to replace traditional polyester and nylon, positioning Altri as a leader in the sustainable textile industry.
The acquisition involves constructing the first industrial AeoniQ™ plant at Altri's Caima pulp mill, scheduled to begin in 2026. The facility will have an initial production capacity of 1,750 tons per year. In Portugal, a pre-industrial plant will be launched in early 2026 to expedite prototyping and foster brand partnerships.
AeoniQ™ yarn is fully biodegradable and significantly reduces CO₂ emissions by at least 3.2 kg per kg when compared to polyester. The joint venture between Altri and HeiQ will leverage Altri's industrial expertise and HeiQ's technology, with support from strategic partners such as Hugo Boss, MAS Holdings, and THE LYCRA COMPANY. The completion of this acquisition is expected in the third quarter of 2025, subject to customary closing conditions.
