BioLargo, Inc. (OTCQX:BLGO), a leader in sustainable technologies, has commenced alpha testing of a groundbreaking portable PFAS water test kit developed by Verralize, Inc. This innovative "lab-on-a-sensor" technology provides rapid, on-site detection of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are often referred to as "forever chemicals" and are regulated under the U.S. Safe Drinking Water Act.
The PFAS test kit is designed to be user-friendly, cost-effective, and capable of distinguishing between various PFAS molecules. This could greatly reduce the time and expense associated with traditional lab testing. BioLargo's testing will take place at its Oak Ridge, Tennessee laboratory, employing contaminated water from both existing and planned pilot projects.
Upon successful validation of the test kit's performance, BioLargo plans to integrate it into its PFAS treatment services. The company will distribute the kits through its extensive nationwide network of manufacturer's sales representatives, providing clients with a more immediate and cost-effective contamination monitoring tool.
According to Tonya Chandler, President of BioLargo Equipment Solutions & Technologies, the rapid and on-site detection capabilities of the PFAS test kit will enhance the performance of BioLargo's treatment systems by allowing quicker response times to contamination. BioLargo will showcase the Verralize test kits and its PFAS solutions at the Water Environment Federation's 98th annual technical exhibition and conference, WEFTEC 2025, in September.
