  • Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) orders 45 Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, valued at approximately $4 billion.
  • The order includes purchase rights for an additional 10 aircraft, marking SAS's largest direct jet order since 1996.

Scandinavian Airlines has confirmed a landmark order for 45 Embraer (ERJ, Financial) E195-E2 aircraft, with the transaction valued at around $4 billion. The agreement also includes options for an additional 10 aircraft, making it the airline's largest direct jet order from a manufacturer since 1996. The first of these aircraft is slated for delivery in late 2027, with further deliveries scheduled over the next four years.

The Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, powered by Pratt & Whitney's PW1900G GTF engines, promises significant enhancements in operational efficiency and environmental performance. These aircraft offer a 29% improvement in fuel efficiency as well as a 62% reduction in noise footprint compared to prior generation models. Moreover, the aircraft is currently able to operate with up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with certification for 100% SAF usage in development.

This fleet acquisition aligns with SAS's strategic focus on improving operational efficiencies, reducing emissions, and expanding network capabilities from its Copenhagen hub across Scandinavia and globally. As the world's most punctual airline, according to Cirium rankings among 660 carriers, SAS aims to use the new aircraft to boost route frequency and network adaptability while curbing operating costs.

Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, expressed enthusiasm over the deal, highlighting the E195-E2's advantages in fuel efficiency and noise reduction. The order enhances Embraer's presence in the European aviation market, supporting airlines with a focus on sustainability and efficiency amid tightening environmental regulations.

For Embraer, this massive order underscores a strengthened market position, providing robust revenue visibility through 2031 and reinforcing its competitive edge in the single-aisle aircraft segment against industry giants like Airbus and Boeing.
