Toyota Motor North America (TM) has committed over $50 million to enhance its Arizona Proving Grounds, now renamed the Arizona Mobility Test Center at Toyota Arizona Proving Grounds (AMTC at TAPG). The investment signals Toyota's dedication to advancing vehicle testing and development capabilities in North America.
The investment includes the construction of a 5.5-mile oval track, an off-road park, and new ride handling surfaces. These enhancements aim to support Toyota's ongoing vehicle development and generate additional revenue through third-party rentals. Toyota plans to complete the majority of the new construction by late 2025, with some aspects extending into 2026.
Spanning 11,650 acres, the facility boasts 77 miles of testing surfaces, including 60 miles of paved roads. Since opening to third-party testing in 2021, it has served 37 different organizations, with approximately 286 test vehicles completing over 203,400 hours of testing.
This development is part of Toyota's broader strategy to maintain leadership in diverse mobility solutions, supporting both conventional and alternative powertrain technology validation. The location in Arizona's Sonoran Desert offers ideal conditions for year-round testing across extreme environments.
